A major international health concern, VTE is a problem that most commonly effects hospitalised patients. More than 1 million cases of VTE, including those that result in death, are expected to occur in Europe every year. The majority of these cases occur in hospitals.
According to a study conducted across 32 countries and involving 68,000 patients, effective procedures that successfully prevent VTE are not being administered as often as recommended.
These cost-effective measures include the use of mechanical prophylaxis, which is regarded as a non-invasive preventative option for high-risk patients. Combined with medication, mechanical prophylaxis is particularly effective in preventing VTE.
